About MacuShield

What is MacuShield?

MacuShield is a dietary supplement that combines three macular carotenoids: meso-zeaxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin. A carotenoid is a naturally occurring plant pigment and there are over 700 carotenoids found in nature, including the three that are the main ingredients in MacuShield.

These three carotenoids are found at the macula at the back of the eye, where they form the macular pigment (yellow colour). Mezo-zeathanthin is particularly concentrated at the centre of this pigment. The macula is a specialised part of the retina and responsible for our detailed, central vision.

The carotenoids in MacuShield are obtained from specially grown marigold flowers (Tagetus Erecta). and can also be found naturally in some fruits and vegetables, lutein in dark green leafy vegetables and zeathanthin in brightly coloured fruits. Meso-zeaxanthin is present in some species of fish and seafood.
